Project SPECTRE: novel study on vaporized CBD and THC effects interaction in humans
Commonly distributed on SQDC store shelves, cannabis products composed of various ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) concentrations are making waves in Quebec. Based on the most recent Enquête québécoise sur le cannabis 2022 (2023), 11,8% of surveyed users that year declared having consumed products with equal THC and CBD ratios, while 60,6% declared having consumed products with only one psychoactive compound or one in greater quantity (1). Just with a quick glance into the provincial corporation website, ones can find a selection of more than 450 balanced products available on the market, most of them consumed under vaporized mode of administration (2).
Even if the Enquête québécoise sur le cannabis 2022 shows rising trends of vaporized cannabis consumption and increased preferences for THC:CBD balanced products (3), few studies have investigated how CBD concentration modulates psychoactive effects of THC in humans. Nonetheless, this question is fundamental for any recreational users who wishes to make informed choices by selecting products with lower risk of adverse effects associated with their consumption.
To bridge this knowledge gap, Dr. Didier Jutras-Aswad research laboratory launched an innovative and novel study on psychoactive effects of THC in interaction with CBD in vaporized products. Starting in May 2024, any healthy adult aged between 21 and 49 years old is invited to volunteer to the project by subscribing on our website or by phone.
